Scotch Plains Plumbing – Unclogged!

If you are searching for Scotch Plains plumbing, you are probably in need of some plumbing tips.  Ok, let’s be honest, you may be in need of some unclogging tips!  Here are some of the top tricks to unclog that toilet before calling a professional.

Scotch Plains Plumbing – Unclogged!

Well, we said it.  Clogged toilets.  No one likes them, but everyone has to deal with it at one point or another.  Even though your trusty local plumbing company will be there for you no matter what, sometimes the situation is dire and more imminent efforts are required.  Here are a few tricks to try first before calling your favorite plumber to come to your rescue!

First, plunge it out!  A plunger is a must-have home appliance, and if you don’t have one, you should probably be sure to invest in one as soon as possible.  A plunger is great to have around if your toilet starts to overflow and is also a great tool to have at hand if a guest is in need. Be sure to choose a study and durable plunger that has a flange, something that will make it more effective for clearing that clog and plunging that sucker out!

Another handy tool is good ol’ petroleum jelly.  Putting a little PJ around the rim of your plunger can help you get a really good seal around the tip of your pipes, giving you a much needed seal.  This tight fit at the bottom of the bowl will keep the top of the plunger submerged in water enough to suck out the clog the way it was made to.  If you need to, don’t be afraid to add more water to really do the trick.

Next, you may not believe it, but vinegar and baking soda can really free a clogged toilet!  This blend is not only more gentle on a toilet system than chemical cleaners, but you probably already have them on hand in your pantry!  To work this little bit of toilet unclogging magic, bring a large pot of water to a boil, well a simmer should do it.  Then allow the water to cool for a few minutes, about five or so.  Add one full cup of baking soda to the toilet bowl.  Then follow with two cups of vinegar.  Afterwards, pour in your hot water, beings sure not to over flow the bowl, which may happen if you pour in too much too fast. The clog may take several hours to work its way out, but it really should do the trick!  Slow and steady wins the race!

If that does work, consider trying liquid dish soap to slip things down the tubes.  Heat water the same way you did for the baking soda and vinegar mixture, but get the soap in there nice and good, allowing it to settle a bit before pouring the water in.

Finally, a plumbing snake can be used to clear a clog, especially if it’s stubborn.  Though this is a little more hands on, and there for a little more gross, it is something that can be done by yourself at home for a significantly smaller cost than that of a plumber.

But, when all else fails, or if you just don’t want to deal with it yourself, go ahead and invest in calling a professional.  You know they will get the job done fast, and correctly – the first time.
